Mental health advocate Aaron Stark will present "I Was Almost a School Shooter" on Thursday, November 5, as part of Lena Pope's Strong Foundations Speaker Series. The nonprofit said the event runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at its Amon Carter Event Center, 3200 Sanguinet St. in Fort Worth.
Stark has publicly described childhood adversity, emotional isolation and thoughts of carrying out a school shooting. He said his account centers on the people who helped him find another path. He describes himself as a father of four. The presentation will examine how isolation, emotional pain and hopelessness can shape behavior, and how relationships can help redirect a person's life.
Lena Pope said Stark's story has reached millions. The organization said attendees will explore practical strategies for approaching people who struggle emotionally and for building stronger personal connections. Organizers said the goal is to help families recognize when someone needs support. The event is part of the Rooted Together initiative. Lena Pope has served North Texas children and families since 1930.
