Unofficial early results show State Rep. David Cook, R-Mansfield, leading Democrat Amy Martinez-Salas in the race for Texas Senate District 22. Cook had 71% of the vote and Martinez-Salas had 22%, based on 16,564 ballots counted.

Voters in Senate District 9 are also choosing a senator in the Nov. 3 midterm election. Incumbent Democrat Taylor Rehmet and Republican Leigh Wambsganss are facing each other again. Rehmet won a February special runoff against Wambsganss after Republican Kelly Hancock left the seat to serve as acting state comptroller. Early results for District 9 were not yet available.

The district covers most of Fort Worth and several other Tarrant County cities, including Haltom City, Richland Hills, North Richland Hills, Hurst and Keller. The winner will serve a four-year term. Both candidates have named the rising cost of living, public education and property tax relief as priorities.
