The Austin Police Department said a shooting happened at the Voodoo Room on East Sixth Street around 1:37 a.m. Sunday. Officers responded to reports that two people may have been shot but found only one person with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital. Police said the injury did not appear to be serious.

The case is being investigated as an aggravated assault. Police said no suspect has been arrested. Police said they could not confirm whether the shooting happened before or after the end of daylight saving time.

The shooting happened during a weekend when public safety agencies had added staff for major downtown events, including Halloween and a University of Texas football game. Police estimated the game would draw 80,000 to 100,000 people downtown. Officers said they increased patrols and overtime staffing, working under a unified command with police, EMS and fire. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
