The Young County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a $10,000 contribution to Virginia's House after a presentation on the group's work with children affected by abuse and other crimes. Executive Director Kaci McKinzie asked for consistent annual funding. She said a predictable $10,000 contribution would help the organization plan for staffing.

Virginia's House is a nonprofit headquartered in Graham that serves Young, Stephens and Throckmorton counties. It was founded in 1992 as the Young County Family Resource Center. Its programs include a Children's Advocacy Center, North Star CASA, mentoring and the ROAR prevention education program for children ages 4 to 8. It also operates Dr. Goodall's House in Breckenridge.

According to its fiscal year 2026 impact report, the group served 122 individuals across 60 families. It also reviewed 204 multidisciplinary team cases, conducted 34 forensic interviews and made more than 28 mental health service referrals. McKinzie said funding remains a significant challenge, as the organization relies heavily on state and federal grants and individual contributions. Commissioners discussed past county contributions, which have largely come from energy rebate funds. Officials noted those revenues fluctuate significantly.
