Houston TranStar reported a crash and hazmat spill that closed all eastbound lanes of the I-10 East Freeway at the I-610 East Loop, near Mercury Drive, around 2:50 a.m. Friday.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said an 18-wheeler overturned. He said the closure is expected to last several hours. Around 6:30 a.m., crews were seen flipping a FedEx truck upright.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use an alternate route, such as Highway 90. It is not yet clear what caused the crash or whether anyone was injured.
