Wood County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Weldon Powell of Quitman on November 4 in connection with the murder of his wife, Brittany Powell, also of Quitman, according to a probable cause affidavit released this week.
The affidavit says Brittany's brother-in-law called Wood County dispatch with a welfare concern after not hearing from her for three days. He told a deputy that she had described a physical altercation with her husband and had texted that she was "not good." He also said neither Brittany nor Weldon had gone to work in three days.
According to the affidavit, the brother-in-law said Weldon told him by phone that Brittany was at home. Later, the landlord went to the house, became concerned about the pets, and went inside. He found Brittany's body in the bathroom and called 911, the affidavit said.
