Henderson's Layla Tayfel will compete at the state cross country meet after a qualifying performance at regionals. She is the only Lions athlete to earn a state spot. She ran as part of a Henderson regional group that included the girls' team and one individual boys' runner.

Coach Jorge Cardenas said Tayfel was dedicated throughout the season and described her as hardworking, coachable and talented. He credited her willingness to learn, to listen to her coaches and to push herself. "Qualifying for State is a major milestone and a reward for the countless hours of practice, preparation, and commitment she has invested in her sport," Cardenas said.

Cardenas also recognized all Henderson runners who competed at regionals and encouraged community members to congratulate them. He thanked coaches Guevara and Smith for their help during the season, and he recognized Coach Walton, Coach Lewis and Mr. Bowman for traveling to support the athletes.
