Galveston Police said Galveston City Council Member Jason Hardcastle was arrested for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest after a two-vehicle crash on Friday evening. Officers responded to the crash in the 6800 block of Seawall Boulevard at about 8:15 p.m., according to the department.
Police said an officer noticed signs that Hardcastle was possibly intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police said Hardcastle refused to provide a breath sample. Officers then obtained a search warrant for a blood specimen, to be collected by a trained medical professional.
Police said Hardcastle physically resisted officers' efforts to carry out the warrant at a local hospital, which led to an additional charge of resisting arrest. Hardcastle was booked into the Galveston County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
