City officials and master brewers gathered Monday off McIntyre Street to announce the reopening of 5×5 Brewing Co. in Edinburg. The brewery closed its Mission location last February. Co-founder Sean Downey said the company had kept brewing at an undisclosed off-site location.
The company plans to break ground on a new 8,000-square-foot facility within walking distance of UTRGV. Downey said Edinburg's economic development arm is a financial partner, and that the project will be funded through a combined $2.5 million investment. The new site will include an expanded production floor, an indoor tap and dining room, a kitchen and an outdoor concert area.
Downey said the brewery will add pub-style appetizers and entrees and will have more than 10 beers available at a time in the tap room. He said the company received much feedback from the community after the Mission closure and that it aims to give back, especially to the veteran community.
