Members of the Anthony Smith Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) were honored guests at the Nacogdoches Chapter's annual Pink Out Luncheon on Monday, Oct. 19, at the Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches. Members wore pink in support of the event.
During the program, chapter members traced the group's growth from its founding in 1948, when members met in one another's homes. They also described projects from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and the chapter's current work in local, state and national DAR initiatives. The chapter said it was founded on the principles of God, Home, and Country.
Current projects include providing food for families in need, assembling self-care wellness bags for women veterans, and sponsoring Junior American Citizens groups in Angelina County. The chapter also awards scholarships to local high school seniors, sends cards to veterans, collects socks for residents of health care facilities, and recognizes veterans, outstanding teachers and community leaders.
