A community toy drive will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at Bakersfield Park, 1201 Duncan Lane, in Flower Mound. Christian Community Action, known as CCA, said the donations will help provide Christmas gifts for 1,500 local children from families facing financial hardship. Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Dorothy's Dash, the Flower Mound Youth Sports Association and Perfect Game's Keep Calm and Baseball On Tournament are partnering with CCA on the drive. Anyone can contribute, whether or not they are taking part in the race or the tournament. Dorothy's Dash runners are encouraged to bring a toy in the morning. Starting at noon, baseball tournament players and families will also be asked to contribute.
CCA's Christmas Cheer program helps families who are struggling to pay for expenses such as rent, utilities and groceries. Parents work with case managers to create wish lists for their children. Each child receives toys, a handmade stocking and a new book chosen by the parents. Families also receive wrapping paper and tape.
"We are grateful to Dorothy's Dash, FMYSA, Perfect Game, and everyone who joins this effort to support local children," said Ashley Anderson of CCA. "Every donated toy helps bring joy to a child and reminds families that their community cares about them."
