Leon Watson, a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension agent, was the guest speaker Oct. 21 at the weekly Canton Lions Club Luncheon at the Van Zandt Country Club in Van Zandt County.

Using a slide presentation, Watson discussed programs the extension service is involved in. He said he had spoken to the club last year about the 4-H program and this year wanted to cover the basics of the AgriLife extension program. He said the service works with many volunteers in the county and named club member Ben Hendley as president of its Leadership Advisory Board.

Watson said the extension service's vision is to help Texans thrive and to provide science-based information and solutions in agriculture and health. He said the service is an education entity that offers programs, tools and resources, both locally and statewide. He also said the program is based on the land-grant university system.
