Victoria County Republican Party chairman Bill Pozzi and Victoria County Democratic Party chairwoman Jewel Buchanan had different reactions to Tuesday's midterm election, but both said their parties have work ahead before the next election cycle. Pozzi acknowledged Democratic gains across Texas. He said Republicans should not treat the results as a reason to pull back. Buchanan said she was relieved and excited by the outcome and pointed to higher local participation as a sign of momentum.

Most local races in Victoria County were uncontested. Republican incumbent Paige Foster won the county's only contested countywide race, defeating Democratic challenger Patricia Youngblood with about 65% of the vote, according to unofficial results.

Pozzi said the local results reflect a community he has come to appreciate since moving to Victoria. He said parties go through periods when voters favor one side over the other. Pozzi also said Democrats ran a strong race and that he saw no sign of cheating.
