Livingston volleyball beat Houston Austin in three straight sets in the bi-district round of the playoffs Thursday in New Caney. The Lions won 25-8, 25-18 and 25-6. The win was their 29th of the season, which the Polk County Enterprise reported is a school record for victories in a year.
Mary Martin and Ta'Leiyah Garner had many of the team's kills. Maci Parrish provided the serves in the second set. After a slow start in the final set, Livingston scored 15 straight points to finish the sweep.
Coach Casey Veen, in her first year back at Livingston, said the team did what it needed to do. "The goal is to win and take care of business, and I thought the girls did that well," she said. "The next round is going to be a little bit harder." Livingston will face Lumberton in the area round. Lumberton beat Hudson on Thursday night at Woodville.
