San Antonio City Councilman Jalen Mckee-Rodriguez, who represents District 2, has filed a request asking the city to study how marijuana legalization has affected other major cities. The analysis would look at potential tax revenue, job creation and what a legal cannabis industry could mean for San Antonio. Mckee-Rodriguez said the findings could help make the economic case for legalization to state lawmakers.

Four other council members have signed on to support the request. It must first go through the city's governance committee before any study can move forward.

Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa said she wants to give Texans a right to vote on the future of THC, and said this would protect children and freedoms. Marijuana remains illegal for general recreational use in Texas. Any change to state law would have to come from lawmakers in Austin.
