State Rep. Trent Ashby is projected to defeat Democrat Bobby Tillman in the race for Texas Senate District 3. With 99 percent of votes reported, Ashby had 69 percent. Sen. Robert Nichols is leaving the seat after nearly 20 years. Ashby has served in the state House since 2013.
Other East Texas legislative races were also reported. Republican Bryan Hughes was projected to defeat Democrat Laticia Ambroz in Senate District 1, with 71 percent of the vote and 91 percent reporting. In House District 1, Republican Chris Spencer was projected to defeat Democrat Sean Huffman, with 72 percent at 95 percent reporting.
In House District 8, Republican Cody Harris was projected to defeat Democrat Jeff Chavez, with 75 percent at 94 percent reporting. In House District 11, Republican Joanne Shofner was projected to defeat Democrat Roxanne Lathan, with 71 percent at 94 percent reporting.
