Vice President JD Vance told a Republican campaign rally in Weatherford on Thursday that Texas would have surrendered if it does not vote Ken Paxton into the U.S. Senate on Nov. 3. Vance and about a dozen other Republicans spoke at JRJ Construction, where the event drew about 3,000 people, according to the report. Some attendees gathered in an overflow area outside.
Comptroller Don Huffines said conservative voters must turn out and pick the full Republican ticket, from the top down, to keep the "demon party" out of Texas. Other speakers included Mayes Middleton, the Republican candidate for attorney general, Craig Goldman, who is running in Congressional District 12, and Brandon Gill, running in District 26.
The U.S. Senate race between Paxton, the Texas attorney general, and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico was a central focus. Vance said the crowd's enthusiasm showed how energized voters were. He also said Paxton is "obsessed" with defending the Texas way of life and its residents.
