The Pine Tree Lady Pirates opened the Class 4A volleyball playoffs with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-22 sweep of Brownsboro on Thursday. Pine Tree led the first set from the start, while the second and third sets were close throughout.

Coach Kaitlyn Orren said the playoffs can be unpredictable. "Anything can happen in the playoffs," she said. She said the team stayed focused and did not look nervous when the match got tense.

Bryleigh Mayhan led Pine Tree with 11 kills, and Carly Chadwick had 20 assists. Jadelyn Armas added 17 digs. Harley Dick had five kills and four blocks for Brownsboro, which finished the season at 16-17.

The win moves Pine Tree to 28-12, one more victory than it had a year ago. Pine Tree will play Sulphur Springs in an area match at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hawkins.
