Elon Musk spent at least $445 million to help Republicans keep control of Congress, according to the report. Republicans lost control of Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections, and Democrats are expected to examine Musk's companies and his work at the Department of Government Efficiency. Democrats in Congress were already preparing possible subpoenas and investigations, the report said.

In Texas, Musk spent at least $5 million to reelect Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who lost to Democrat Gina Hinojosa. The report said Musk's spending benefited Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton by $158 million, but Paxton lost his U.S. Senate race to Democrat James Talarico. Democrats also gained control of the Texas House.

The report said Texas voters' views of Musk were largely unfavorable. Slightly more than half of voters in an AP Voter Poll of more than 5,000 Texans had an unfavorable opinion of him. State Rep. Gene Wu, chairman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, said, "This era of open corruption is going to come to an end."
