The Lubbock High Westerners and Monterey Plainsmen play their season finale Friday evening in the annual "Battle for the Silver Spurs." Monterey is looking to extend its win streak in the inner-city rivalry. A Lubbock High win would be its first in the game since 2007, according to the report.
Monterey head coach Jason Sims said the matchup will likely differ from past years. He said Lubbock High is much improved and more sound defensively. "I think it's a very evenly matched ball game," Sims said.
Lubbock High head coach Juan Rodriguez said Monterey, though eliminated from the playoffs, will still be a threat. He said the team that makes fewer mistakes will likely win. The game airs on KCBD.com, the End Zone App and the Streaming App.
