Harris County Judge-elect Letitia Plummer held her first press conference since winning Tuesday's election. She thanked voters, volunteers and supporters. Plummer, a former Houston City Council member and dentist, defeated Republican Orlando Sanchez to replace outgoing County Judge Lina Hidalgo. Her win makes her the first Black person elected Harris County judge.

Plummer said she intends to serve all residents of the county, including those who did not vote for her. She said she has been in contact with Hidalgo and Democratic Commissioners Lesley Briones, Adrian Garcia and Rodney Ellis. She also said she looks forward to speaking with Republican Commissioner Tom Ramsey.

Over the coming days, Plummer plans to meet with Homeland Security representatives, flood control officials, law enforcement agencies and leaders from the 34 cities in the county. Her transition team has opened a job portal to recruit staff. She also said she has spoken with Houston Mayor John Whitmire about closer cooperation between the city and county on public safety, flooding and infrastructure.
