Clifton defeated Vanderbilt Industrial 3-0 on Thursday night in Bastrop, winning the sets 25-12, 25-16 and 25-14. The loss ended Industrial's 20-game winning streak and was its first since Aug. 29, when it lost to Foster High School in Richmond. Sophomore Lyla Ellison had a team-high nine kills and eight digs for Industrial. Senior Karli Stanush had five kills and a team-high 10 digs in her final game for the team.
Industrial head coach Tara Dunn said the team was "so incredibly proud" of the season and of how the players supported each other. Clifton will play No. 3 East Bernard in the Region III Final. The date, time and location have not been set.
In Luling, Cuero beat Canyon Lake 3-2 in a five-set match, winning the final set 15-7. Jessa Cox had 16 kills and Aleciara Smallwood added 11 kills, 18 assists and 11 digs. Freshman Catherine Kubesch had six aces. Cuero will face either No. 1 Wimberly or No. 8 Navarro in the Region III Final. The date, time and location for that match have not been determined.
