Lindale's Eden Denson and Seth Leevey will run at the UIL Cross Country State Championships for the first time on Friday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported.
Denson, a sophomore, is in her first year of cross country. She said she had a successful track season and kept training over the summer. She placed seventh at the Class 4A Region II meet with a time of 12:51 to qualify for state. Denson said she had not expected to get that far in her first season. Track is her main sport, and she has run the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races since she was a freshman.
Daniel Devisscher, Lindale's head girls basketball coach and assistant track coach, is in his first year as head cross country coach. He said Denson has a natural stride and that he wanted her to compete and have fun.
Leevey is a senior.
