Two Texas Lutheran University students died early Monday in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 46 near Seguin, authorities said. Deyreck Dean, 23, of Rockwall, and A'Jean Augustine, 20, of Houston, died when the 2012 Kia Sorento they were riding in struck a guardrail at about 2:38 a.m. Nov. 2.
The Seguin Police Department said the vehicle was traveling south toward Seguin at a high rate of speed when it crossed into the northbound lanes near the bridge over Farm-to-Market Road 78 and struck the guardrail. Dean was a senior and Augustine a junior at the university.
The university said in a statement that both students were student-athletes. Dean, a Rockwall High School graduate, was a wrestler and football player who made the Dean's List every year. He was weeks away from graduating in December.
