Maverick County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Roberto De Leon said the department is conducting Weapon Retention and Patrol Tactics Training for all deputies. He said the goal is to strengthen deputies' skills and readiness for challenging situations.
Weapon retention training focuses on helping officers keep control of their firearms during physical confrontations. Patrol tactics training covers safety practices and decision-making used while carrying out duties, according to the Sheriff's Office.
De Leon said the training is part of the department's ongoing effort to prepare deputies to protect themselves and the residents they serve. He said the safety of deputies and the public remains a top priority.
