Fort Bend County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, and a shortage of skilled construction workers could slow the homes and communities driving that growth. Large projects such as Austin Point, a planned community expected to bring about 14,000 homes to the region, are part of the expansion in the Richmond-Rosenberg area.

Shawn McNeil, building construction program team lead at Texas State Technical College's Fort Bend County campus, said the county needs people who can build homes, businesses and infrastructure. "Fort Bend County is growing rapidly," McNeil said.

McNeil said TSTC aims to prepare those workers through hands-on instruction, industry-relevant training and connections with employers.
