Official early voting tallies for Comal County were posted to social media. Jerrie Champlin of the League of Women Voters of Comal Area (LWVCA) crunched the numbers. Champlin's figures show 24.3% of the county's 152,424 registered voters, or 37,031 residents, cast ballots from Monday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Oct. 25. The county's six vote centers recorded 8,035 in-person ballots on the weekend of Oct. 24-25, and 155 mail-in ballots were received that weekend.
Cumulative figures include 37,031 ballots cast at the vote centers and 2,519 mail-in ballots. That gives a turnout of about 25.9% of registered voters. The LWVCA said this was a 2.6% increase in ballots cast in the first week compared with the first week of the 2022 midterms. In 2022, 30,372 ballots were cast in the first week, a 23.3% turnout of 130,109 registered voters.
The group also said 36.9% of the county's 143,696 registered voters cast ballots in the first week of early voting for the 2024 presidential election. The LWVCA describes itself as a nonprofit, nonpartisan national organization that encourages informed participation in government and protects voting rights.
