Lubbock County leaders will hold a community memorial service on Sunday for about two dozen residents who died this year and have no identified next of kin. The service honors people whose remains were given to the county after their families could not be located.
County officials said the gathering is meant to celebrate the humanity of those who died, honor their lives, and affirm the dignity and worth of every community member.
The service is set for 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church, near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East 31st Street. It will include prayers, personal reflections, words of remembrance, and a formal reading of the names.
