The Tyler Lions (7-2, 5-1) host the Mesquite Skeeters (3-6, 3-3) at 7 p.m. Friday at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in a District 7-5A Division I game. The game is also Senior Night, when seniors from the football team, band, drill team, cheerleaders and Lion Guard will be honored.
A Tyler win would give the Lions their 29th district championship. Tyler has already clinched a playoff berth and would make its 41st playoff appearance, with a bi-district game next week. West Mesquite and North Mesquite have also clinched playoff spots. To take the No. 1 seed, Tyler needs a win over Mesquite and a North Mesquite win over West Mesquite, which beat Tyler earlier this season.
Mesquite can still reach the playoffs by beating Tyler and getting help from other district teams to tie for fourth place.
