The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program connects Abilene families with Christmas gifts. Angel Tree tags are expected to be available at Walmart stores beginning November 14, including the north and south stores and Neighborhood Walmart. Each tag represents a child whose family could use extra support during the holidays.

Maj. Joe Burton, the Salvation Army's commanding officer, said about 500 children are signed up to receive gifts. Burton said First Financial Bank is helping and plans to provide gifts for 110 children.

Salvation Army Development Manager Andrew Gwinn Sr. said the Angel Tree list has grown as Abilene's population has grown and the need for services has increased. Burton said the program may not provide every gift a child requests, but aims to make sure each child receives something for Christmas.
