Victor Wembanyama wore a Geralt of Rivia costume from The Witcher to Frost Bank Center on Halloween night. Later he scored 43 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked six shots as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-111. It was the Spurs' fourth straight victory.
The costume included a flowing cape, swords, shoulder protection and potions. Wembanyama said the cape was his favorite part, though it hid much of the design. Asked to rank it among his costumes, he said it was his favorite because Geralt is one of his favorite characters and because it was the most complex and took the most work.
Wembanyama shot 17 of 34 from the field and reached 40 points for the 10th time in his regular-season career. One highlight came when he blocked Jonathan Kuminga's 3-point attempt and finished with a two-handed dunk. Dylan Harper added 25 points and six assists, and De'Aaron Fox scored 20.
Asked why he keeps dressing up for Halloween, Wembanyama said, "Because I can. Because I like it. Because it's fun." He also said he expects to keep going with similar outfits, noting that his costumes so far have been mostly black.
