The U.S. Department of Agriculture and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced the launch of the Great American Christmas Market. The two-day holiday event will be held on the National Mall and will bring together farmers, ranchers, artisans and producers from across the country.

The USDA said the market is the final event in its yearlong commemoration of America's 250th anniversary. It will offer American-grown and American-made products used in Christmas celebrations nationwide. The USDA said the market is meant to encourage shoppers to buy products that support rural communities and local businesses. Among the highlights listed in the announcement are fresh Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands and mini trees from American growers.

Rollins said agriculture is part of many holiday traditions, from Christmas trees and wreaths in homes to meals shared at family tables. She said the market is a way to recognize the people who make those traditions possible.
