Twenty-nine defendants were sentenced in the 90th Judicial District Court during July and August, according to reports released by District Attorney Dee Peavy. The court disposed of nine cases in July and 20 in August. Some defendants faced multiple charges, and several August cases involved violations of community supervision, commonly called probation.
The longest sentence went to Cody Bennett Boyd, 39, of Newcastle, who received 25 years in prison after admitting to multiple violations of his community supervision in a methamphetamine possession case. In August, Micah Daniel Johnson, 36, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and received a 20-year prison sentence on each count. Gilbert Dean Hodges, 73, of Bryson, received 15 years in prison after admitting to community supervision violations in a methamphetamine possession case.
In July, Tomas Antonio Huerta-Sanchez, 30, of Cleveland, received the month's longest sentence, 12 years in prison, after pleading guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Two Olney residents were also among those sentenced. Garrett Allen Grisham, 34, pleaded guilty in July to theft of property and received an 18-month state jail sentence.
