The Texas Scorpions, a family-owned semi-professional hockey team, are preparing for their first season in Northlake at the Children's Health StarCenter Multisport. The team hopes to offer competitive hockey and affordable family entertainment, and to build a strong connection with the community. The story notes that Southern Denton County fans have had to drive to Frisco, Dallas or Arlington to see professional sports.

The Mignault family of Flower Mound runs the team. Danny Mignault coaches, and his son Daniel Ernest Mignault leads production and also plays. Amaya Mignault oversees administrative and media work, including social media, photography and team communications. Daniel Mignault said the team is "definitely a family project."

Daniel Mignault previously worked for the Dallas Cowboys and ran a freelance company focused on social media, marketing and video production. He also was involved with the All-Goalie hockey phenomenon, which was later featured on ESPN networks. He said he plans to make Scorpions games as much about entertainment as hockey. The team's plans include massive metal arches with LED lights, spark machines and a wrapped, illuminated ATV on the ice.
