Ninety new affordable homes are planned for west Lubbock at The Reserves at Santa Fe Place, near 43rd Street and Justice Avenue. The project will be the fifth community built in Lubbock by Overland Property Group, according to the story. The project's website says it will offer homes to families who earn between $20,000 and $50,000 a year. The community will include a clubhouse, a playground and a dog park.
Matthew Gillam, managing partner for Overland Property Group, said the people who live in the homes matter most. Gillam said he likes seeing families receive things they had been missing. He described a woman whose children had never had their own rooms or an in-house washer and dryer.
Eddie Broussard, with UMB Bank, an investor in the project, said he wants everyone in Lubbock to have equal opportunities to raise a family. Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer said his focus is on the families who will live there. McBrayer said affordability is a big topic nationwide and that the project will help with one part of the problem.
