The San Antonio Zoo has announced the birth of a two-toed sloth. The zoo said it is the first sloth born at the zoo since 2010.
The baby was born Oct. 25 to Aluna and Sol. The zoo said Aluna and the baby are being monitored by veterinary and animal care teams as they bond. The baby will stay behind the scenes for now.
Aluna and Sol are part of the zoo's Animal Ambassador Team and sometimes appear at special events or meet guests. The zoo said the birth also highlights the importance of protecting tropical rainforest habitats in Central and South America, where sloths live.
