Galveston County officials were called on Saturday, Oct. 17, about a reported suicide at a home in Crystal Beach. Deputies found 74-year-old Barbara Barraque with a gunshot wound to her chest.
Her boyfriend, 71-year-old Robert Brown, allegedly told authorities that the wound was self-inflicted. According to the county sheriff's office, evidence contradicted his claim and supports the assumption that someone else shot Barraque.
Brown was arrested on Oct. 23, less than a week after Barraque's death, and is charged with murder, officials said. He was taken to jail on a $400,000 bond. Other details about the case are not available at this time.
