Mineola Primary has started an Art Club this year, its first year offering one. The idea came from Heather Kinsel, a third-grade teacher, who wanted a club open to all third graders that would also give students who do not do well academically a way to express their creativity.

Kinsel, Laura Wallace, a first-grade teacher, and Suann Pullen, a second-grade teacher, volunteer to lead the club. It meets Mondays after school until 4:45 p.m. The club began in September, and the teachers hope to run it through the end of the school year so students can see how their skills develop.

The teachers use supplies donated from their classrooms or bought with their own money. They need paint markers, watercolor paints and brushes, soda can tabs, acrylic paintbrushes, canvases, heavy art paper, colored pencils, crayons and aluminum foil. Donations can be dropped off at the Mineola Primary School office and labeled for any of the three Art Club teachers.
