The Wood County Old Settlers Reunion drew crowds to Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman over the weekend of Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. The event brought back the carnival, along with a Trunk-or-Treat, live music and contests.

The reunion said more than 1,000 people attended Saturday evening's Trunk-or-Treat. The carnival sold more than 500 armbands over the weekend and opened a day early, on Friday evening. Four-hour unlimited ride armbands cost $25. The Wood County Electric Cooperative's annual membership meeting, held Saturday, drew about 350 people.

The reunion held its first pumpkin pie-eating contest. Steven McKinley won the adult division by eating 14 pieces in four minutes, and Quitman fifth grader Harlee Mix won the junior division. Larry "King" Wisdom, owned by John and Joanne Wisdom, took top honors in the pet costume contest.

Vice President Brook Rogers and Treasurer Joanne Wisdom thanked sponsors, local businesses, volunteers and vendors. Organizers said they plan to keep growing the event while preserving its history.
