A business jet that departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for the Bahamas crashed Sunday afternoon in Greenacres, Florida, about 7 miles southwest of West Palm Beach. A federal investigator said all nine people on board were killed. An airport spokesperson described the flight as a private aircraft.
At a news conference Monday, National Transportation Safety Board member Tom Chapman said the aircraft appeared to start breaking up before it hit the ground. He said parts of the plane may be found some distance from the crash site. Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel G. Flores said about 77 mobile homes in the area were evacuated to a shelter and that the county does not yet know when residents can return.
Authorities have not released the names of those who died. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office declined to discuss the death investigation. TMZ, citing sources close to the family, reported that Austin tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson was among the victims. The Associated Press reported that one of the two pilots had a license rating for that model of Learjet but not for serving as pilot in command.
