National Petroleum Day and the Cargile Charitable Foundation presented a $130,000 check to the Midland Fire Department on Friday, Oct. 30, at Central Fire Station. The presentation had been planned for Oct. 15 but was moved because severe weather and flooding kept Midland firefighters busy serving the community.
The money was raised at a live auction during the NPD Gala at the Petroleum Club of Midland on Aug. 27. Mayor Lori Blong and members of the Midland City Council were expected to attend, along with other city officials.
Fire Chief Michael Tully was scheduled to explain how the funds will be used, including the department's move to PFAS-free firefighting foam. The Cargile Charitable Foundation, a Midland-based 501(c)(3), describes its model as direct giving, meaning every dollar raised goes to the cause.
