Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for a 17-year-old accused of shooting and killing his father during a fight at a home in northwest Harris County early Friday, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office said deputies were called to a home on Westbank Avenue near West Road and Fairbanks North Houston around 1:20 a.m. They found a 37-year-old man who had been shot and killed. After speaking with family members, investigators said the two had been fighting when the teen pulled out a pistol, shot his father, and ran from the house. Family members told investigators the fight was part of an ongoing issue and that the two had argued before. Investigators said they do not yet know what the fight was about.
The teen's mother and two younger siblings, about 14 and 12 years old, were also in the home. They were not hurt, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies said they do not yet know whether the 17-year-old will face charges. Sgt. Jason Brown said investigators are working to determine whether the father was assaulting the son or the son was assaulting the father, and that no decision has been made on charges. The search for the teen was ongoing Friday morning, and investigators want to hear his account of what led up to the shooting.
