Rep. Carrie Isaac, a Republican running for a third term in Texas House District 73 against Democrat Merrie Fox, issued a statement vowing to protect New Braunfels from "Sharia." She defended New Braunfels firefighter Lt. John Weige, who City Manager Robert Camareno placed on administrative leave in mid-October over social-media posts about Nidal Malik Hasan. Hasan is scheduled to be executed by military firing squad Dec. 3 at Fort Hood. He was convicted in the 2009 shooting that killed 13 people and wounded 33.

Isaac said Weige's views do not represent the City of New Braunfels but are protected free speech. She accused Camareno of drawing the city into an "international fight." Weige's posts used the phrase "Muslim pig," according to the reports.

The Comal County Republican Party said on Facebook that someone is stealing Ken Paxton campaign signs. It warned that anyone who steals a sign could be fined up to $2,000 and jailed for 80 days. Party Chair Anita Valdez said the party is out of Paxton signs, has received many calls from people reporting stolen signs, and has notified law enforcement. She called the thefts "unconstitutional."
