The Randle Lions beat the Angleton Wildcats 29-22 on Friday night at Guy K. Traylor Memorial Stadium in Rosenberg. The game was a top-10 matchup, with Randle ranked No. 3 and Angleton ranked No. 4.
Randle head coach Brian Randle said the team lost starting quarterback Brady Bratcher early in the week and had to scramble to find a replacement. Randle led 22-7 with 8:30 left after a 30-yard field goal by Ayo Awobokun. Angleton then scored on a stolen handoff and a late touchdown pass from Trey Gardner to Jake Brittain, and tied the game on a two-point play.
With time running down, Randle ran a play the team had never run before, according to the coach. Landen Williams-Callis carried the ball 75 yards for the winning touchdown. He ran for 165 yards in the second half.
Angleton head coach Jason Brittain said he was proud of his team and said it played well for four quarters.
