Navarro College beat No. 11 Tyler Junior College 28-25 on Saturday in a Southwest Junior College Football Conference semifinal at Community National Bank & Trust Stadium in Corsicana. The Apaches were the reigning conference champions and had hoped to win consecutive titles. They finished the season at 6-4.
Navarro (7-3) will face No. 3 Trinity Valley (8-1) in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. at Bruce Field in Athens. Trinity Valley beat Snow (Utah) 30-14 in the other semifinal.
TJC Coach Brady Davis, in his first year, said his team had "missed opportunities." TJC fell behind 14-0, then took a 17-14 lead in the fourth quarter. Davis said he was ill before, during and after the game but stayed on the sideline. He said several freshmen and first-year players gained experience this season.
