Early voting in Texas ended Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. Webb County logged a nearly 30% jump in turnout compared with the last midterm election, according to official figures. More than 5,000 ballots were cast on the first day, rising to nearly 14,000 by Day 3. On Oct. 29, election workers logged more than 3,600 voters at county polling sites.

Webb County Elections Administrator Jose Luis Castillo said the turnout was higher than he expected. He said local activity looked like participation typically seen in major national contests. Elections office data shows the Laredo Fire Department Administration Building drew the most early voters. The site averaged about 1,100 people a day in the first week and about 900 a day in the second.

Webb County will have 38 countywide polling locations on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. Under the countywide model, registered voters may cast a ballot at any designated polling place, regardless of their home precinct. Castillo said voters facing long lines can ask election workers to direct them to the nearest available site. Cellphones are not allowed inside polling sites, and voters are advised to review races in advance or bring a paper sample ballot.
