The Houston Astros have hired Randy Flores as the 15th general manager in franchise history, the team announced Friday. Flores, 51, comes to Houston from the St. Louis Cardinals, where he was most recently assistant general manager of amateur scouting and player development. He succeeds Dana Brown as the Astros' top baseball operations executive.
Flores spent more than a decade in the Cardinals organization, where he helped oversee player acquisition, scouting and development. He is widely credited with playing a key role in building that club's talent pipeline.
On Oct. 14, the Astros said they would not renew manager Joe Espada's contract after the team's early exit in the American League Wild Card Series in the 2026 MLB playoffs. Astros owner Jim Crane is scheduled to formally introduce Flores at a news conference at 10 a.m. Monday.
