The Permian girls basketball team begins its 2026-27 season at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 against Palo Duro at Permian Fieldhouse. The Lady Panthers went 28-9 last season, their best showing in nearly a decade. They also reached the postseason for the first time since 2017.
Head coach Michael Ellis said the team is eager to start the season. He said the squad has a renewed spirit and that the team is focused on new challenges. Ellis said the team's goals now go beyond last season's results, including making the playoffs and winning 20 games.
Permian graduated eight seniors from last year's team. Ellis said several players with varsity experience are returning, including Rilynn Lujan, a junior who was named First-Team All-District last year, and Jay'a Spraglin. Ellis also pointed to Willard, who he said had a strong freshman year.
