About 30% of Angelina County's registered voters had cast ballots as of Friday morning, the last day of in-person early voting, according to Terri Jordan, the county's elections administrator. Jordan said every day of early voting showed a steady stream of voters, including Sunday, when polls are usually slow.
Jordan said she expects more voters on Election Day and hopes the county has enough ballots. She said she ordered 20,000 more. She also said residents are usually less energized for gubernatorial elections than for presidential elections.
Reporters who spoke with voters across the state found that many were focused on abortion, immigration enforcement and LGBTQ+ equality, topics candidates discussed heavily. The Senate race between Attorney General Ken Paxton and state Rep. James Talarico drew attention, as did the governor's race and a Railroad Commission contest.
