In November 1936, Ozona planned an Armistice Day holiday for school children, with many city businesses closing during the day. The Ozona High School Lions were set to play the Sonora Bronchs in a district football game at 2:30 p.m. on the Sutton County field, with the school band, Pep Squad and a large group of fans traveling with the team. The schools also planned a four-act play about the occasion for the high school auditorium.
In November 1946, the Ozona Community Council named a committee to study a proposal to build a church for Black residents of Ozona. At a Monday night session, the council told the committee to get cost estimates and report back at the next meeting. The committee said it was considering buying a chapel from an Army installation in Texas that had been declared surplus, or building a church of concrete tile about 35 by 60 feet in size. Estimates were to be gathered on the building option.
